JESUS, HOLD MY HAND
For His own Jesus will indeed hold their hands. On a walk through the valley of the shadow of death He is with His followers (Ps. 23:4). Many accounts in the Bible depict Jesus figuratively holding the hand of one person or another as He comforted them. When Lazarus died and Martha appeared alarmed, Jesus said, “Your brother will rise again.” When ten lepers engaged Jesus by calling out for His mercy, he held their hands. All ten lepers got healed, but only one returned to hold Jesus’ hand metaphorically. In a town called Nain, Jesus commanded life back into one being carried off in a coffin. Jesus’ hand drew the soul of this person back from a place beyond death. Jesus’ hand remains extended to all who have not yet received Him as Saviour.
At the same time, his hand reaches out to all of those who have strayed back into the ways of the world. That same hand is offered to all who serve Him in Spirit and in truth as an anointing touch. You will know when Jesus holds your hand. Your life will never be the same. Your ways will indicate to others that something unusual has occurred to you. You have changed from black to white in terms of ways of living, attitudes, purpose and direction in life. Your heart will have a new resident as you have set Him apart in your heart as Lord. Your tongue will submit to changes in the heart and your lips will not allow the unsavoury to cross over them. Friends and family may turn against you, as is often the rule, but in time they, too, might get to hold His hand -- though not always.
Some of your closest kin might say they preferred you as a reprobate, a druggie, boozer, or worse. Oddly enough, those epithets strongly confirm that Jesus has indeed held your hand. Jesus is not someone you can take or leave but rather someone in whom you believe. Anybody who follows Jesus has Him by the hand. By the same token, anybody who has Jesus following him is really being led by the devil. Jesus will follow no man. Best not to love yourself so much so as to be holding your own hand. Break that circle of senility now by taking Jesus by the hand.
