Christ Has Come

Christ Has Come

Isaiah said the Christ to come would be Immanuel,

God with us, and Gabriel would soon to Joseph tell

That Jesus would we call Him; he told Mary as well

From Bethlehem, His place of birth, Micah indicated

The ruler of Israel, the King anticipated

Was sought by wise men and by Herod hated

The Magi saw the wondrous star to follow from the East

They travelled far across terrain, their journey not the least

Bringing gold and frankincense and myrrh  –  their gifts released

A righteous branch said Jeremiah, in wisdom will He reign

From the tribe of Judah, of blood from David’s vein

Though men will cry: Crucify!  He’ll die and rise again

As horn of our salvation and known as Nazarene

Miracles he did perform, the likes of which unseen

He walked the waves of Galilee and made the lepers clean

The angels to the shepherds gave a glorious demonstration

Announcing Christ God’s Son had come to save from every nation

That all who would believe in Him from Him receive salvation

The Cadillac Religion

THE CADILLAC  RELIGION

The Cadillac religion

Exchanges grace for grease

Increasing in great numbers

…No wonder it’s obese

The cross gives way to comfort

God’s Word gives rise to scorn

Christ’s blood is never mentioned

You need not be reborn

You may withhold your offering

Some never give a cent

Your works build your salvation

No one need repent

Gone the word: forgiveness

Revenge, sweetly embraced

Covenants lay broken

True Church stands long replaced

The person in the pulpit

So as to not offend

Quotes from Readers’ Digest

(The truth they won’t defend)

The lengthy benedictions

Liturgy  –  lots to spare

Every hymn’s a lullaby

And no one says a prayer

The great Old-Time Religion

Still won’t spare the facts

That Jesus came to die for us

Just read the Book of Acts

The preaching of the cross

And the power in His blood

Will cleanse far past the white of snow

The sinner from his mud

Within the one who does believe

The Spirit of perfection

Will call the soul of that heart in

The first resurrection

Candy Gods

Candy Gods

Candy gods will tell you lies

From you the truth they`ll circumcise

Sugar gods will offer pleasure

You determine in what measure

Candy gods will follow you

Into all you want to do

They will permit your desires

Grant you all your heart requires

Candy gods will twist each verse

Freeing you from any curse

From these gods on their sweet breath

You wont`smell the second death

How Thick the Blood of Jesus

August 19th, 2011 by

How Thick the Blood of Jesus

The blood of family oft runs thick

So as to clog one’s veins

Choosing family rather than

The Name above all names

The blood of Christ oft runs so thin

When bloodlines call to choose

The Saviour or the relative

So often Christ will lose

How thick’s the blood of Jesus

When push does come to shove?

Who will truly die for Him

To match his matchless love?

The sod of Egypt summons all

To return to its soil

The glitter and the glamour

Blind some to Satan’s foil

The blood of Christ sufficient

Full of life and power

One only needs to plead the blood

Against temptation’s hour

The blood of Christ did spill for me

It paid the purchase price

Blood flowed with such consistency

To wash away my vice

How thick my Saviour’s blood did pour

Across the centuries told

From thorny crown and flesh so torn

To redeem my lost soul

Christ Lives

CHRIST LIVES

CHRIST IS RISEN; HE LIVES ON HIGH

I AM RISEN, NEVER TO DIE

FOR SURE HE LIVES

YES, HE FORGIVES

OH, YES, INDEED MY SAVIOUR LIVES

HE CAME TO DIE

SO I COULD LIVE

HE SHED HIS BLOOD

NEW LIFE TO GIVE

NOW DEEP INSIDE

WITHIN MY HEART

HE LIVES.  HE LIVES.

MY JESUS LIVES.

HIS BLOOD HAS WASHED

AWAY MY SINS

HIS WORD HAS SHOWN

NEW LIVE BEGINS

HIS SPIRIT NOW

WITHIN RESIDES

AND DEEP IN ME

MY CHRIST ABIDES

CHRIST LIVES; CHRIST LIVES

MY SAVIOUR LIVES

I AM REDEEMED

                                                                                                                                                                                                                         I’M SO ALIVE

                                                                                                                                                                                                                    I’M BORN AGAIN

                                                                                                                                                                                                           BECAUSE CHRIST LIVES

Choosing Jesus

August 19th, 2011 by

Choosing Jesus

I choose You over my comfy bed

By coming to church, being Spirit led

I choose You over the hockey game

On Wednesday nights for Jesus name

I choose You over alcohol

And by Your Spirit will not fall

I choose You over isolation

To be a part of Your congregation

I choose you over practicing sin

Through my deliverer I choose to win

I choose eternal life through You

As Lord and Saviour I choose You

Tolerance

July 26th, 2011 by

tolerance

tolerance rejects

the Saviour sent

to die upon the cross

tolerance denies

all that he meant

so all he said is loss

tolerance decries

the age old cross

it so misses the point

tolerance burns

the blood-stained wood

now time is out of joint

tolerance calls

our Christ to bless

unholy ways, unrighteousness

crucify him

tolerance cries

just one more time before our eyes

tolerance is a cross in ashes

If I Am Soil

July 26th, 2011 by

If I Am Soil

If I am soil and have been sown

God will define my crop

That Christ in me is being grown

My sinning has to stop

If I am soil and Word is seed

It’s time to lend an ear

I must in Christ be agreed

To all His words I hear

If I am soil and I am fertile

God’s seed within will root

Overcoming every hurtle

My branches will bear fruit

If I am fertile as His soil

Watch rootlets downward growing

Draw in life without much toil

For a harvest overflowing

If I’m a field ripe unto harvest

I pray I share my bounty

With every person and their guest

Who comes within my county

Creation

July 26th, 2011 by

Creation

(Rom. 1:20)

I see you in the rolling hills

Your voice is in the thunder

I watch you in the mighty clouds

And know your blood I’m under

I’m awe struck by your every river

Your every brook and stream

I thank you every single day

That you came to redeem

I see you in the winter snow

And in the summer rain

I thank you for the autumn colours

For my being born again

I’m reading Romans One and Twenty

Discussing your creation

And, yes, I know there’s no excuse

Your work speaks of creation

The Question Of The Heart

July 26th, 2011 by

THE CONUNDRUM (A RIDDLE)

What can fill a human heart

That cannot fill a head?

THE FIRST OF MANY ANSWERS

“The heart, kind Sir, is filled with love!”

The mind with thoughts instead

THE VALENTINE SCRIPT

What can fill my heart, my dear

And stupefy my brain?

“My heart so filled with love for you!

It’s driving me insane.”

THE TEACHER

A heart first fills with feelings

The brain, oh, mostly logic!

While hearts will swell in passion

The brain — It’s pedagogic!

THE POET

The heart will set life’s course, my love

No rhyme or reason why

The brain prefers discourse at first…

But loses bye and bye

THE DOCTOR

The heart in all its chambers

Pumps life throughout the body

The mind with all its cells

Thinks thoughts high and haughty

THE SAINT

The heart has one more chamber

In most an empty room

Once filled with Jesus Christ

The bride awaits the groom
